BROOKLYN, N.Y. – Lansdowne Bhoys Yonkers captured its sixth Sal Rapaglia Cup title and second in a row, edging the N.Y. Pancyprian Freedoms , 1-0, at Verrazano Sports Complex on Sunday.
Forward Kyle Galloway scored a spectacular goal in the 43rd minute of the one-hour match to secure the victory for the American Premier Soccer League side against its archrivals.
After latching onto a throw by goalkeeper Costi Christodoulou, and then bolted down the right flank. After losing one of his shin guards, Galloway raced in on the Pancyrpians’ net before unleashing a shot that hit the upper 90 on the left part of the goal before dropping home to snap a 1-1 deadlock.
Lansdowne was forced to play with 10 men for the final 12 minutes after defender Bala Danso received a red card in the 48th minute.
In Zone A competition on Sunday, Lansdowne played N.Y. Irish Rovers to a 1-1 draw before recording a 5-0 win over Central Park Rangers 2 in its second match of the day.
The Rapaglia Cup is an official competition of the Eastern New York State Soccer Association.
The cup is named after former ENYSSA president Sal Rapaglia, who passed away in April.
